| I think Ozzy (left) and Pemi (right) love this house! They seem to be admiring it here in this photo! LOL! |
We’re getting so close—about 95% of the electrical work is complete, with just the generator hookup left. The closet lights are motion-sensor activated (they turn on when you open the door and shut off automatically), and all the kitchen and bathroom cabinets and drawers are soft-close! The under-cabinet accent lighting in the kitchen looks amazing—such a beautiful touch!
The stair posts between the first and second floors are in, and this week flooring installation begins. As rooms are finished, baseboards will be added, the stairs will be completed with finished wood, and the interior railings will be installed. The deck posts and railings for both the deck and farmer’s porch are also going in, as well as the stairs on the farmers porch by the driveway.
We meet with our closing attorney this Wednesday to finalize paperwork, with closing to be scheduled for either June 6th or 9th. The buyers will receive and sign their documents and wire funds that same day of the closing.
We rented a Uhaul truck twice this past week to bring items to our storage unit in New Hampshire (e.g. 2 large workshop tool benches, large and small tool boxes, deck and porch furniture, deck boxes, multiple boxes that aren’t going directly to the new house, the quad with trailer cart, snow blower, riding mower, items in the sheds, etc).
We hired a moving company to move everything else. They will be coming on June 2nd to empty our house here in Connecticut. They will keep everything overnight and will deliver it all to our new home in New Hampshire on June 3rd! I am taking time off from work both days so I will be up in New Hampshire on the 3rd. We may need a few more items to go to our storage unit in New Hampshire and they are willing to go there as well. My son and daughter-in-law will be taking our kitchen set (China cabinet, table and chairs, and buffet table). The moving company will drop them off at their house!
Still on our to-do list:
- Photo of the oil tank gauge for reimbursement of remaining oil,
- Propane company visit to certify remaining fuel (liquid propane) in the tanks,
- Notify utility and internet providers to end service,
- Complete the form at the post office to forward our mail to our new address,
- Submit the form to our new post office in New Hampshire so they can add our address to their route,
- Update billing addresses with all of our accounts, and,
- Coordinate cancellation of our pest control contract. When you have a post a beam house, one must treat routinely to prevent pests such as carpenter ants and carpenter bees.
I’ll be working from home in Connecticut through Friday, June 6th and then, starting June 9th, I’ll be working from home in our new home in New Hampshire!
After the moving company finishes here in Connecticut on June 2nd, I’ll drive up to New Hampshire and will stay with my son and his family for the night. On June 3rd, I will head over to our house to meet up with the movers! Our kitchen appliances will also be delivered that day. I don’t have a time yet but will have a window of time provided the day before, and the n they will call or text when they are on their way. Once the movers are done and the kitchen appliances are in place, I will need to drive back to our home in Connecticut that same day. I need to take my 91 year old aunt to her scheduled doctor’s appointment in Connecticut at 7:40 AM on June 4th (I will start looking for a place to move her up to New Hampshire once we are settled in) and I will work from home in Connecticut the rest of that day through June 6th. I will work at my kitchen island and will sleep on my new air mattress. I’ll have a suitcase for clothing and hygiene supplies. And I’ll keep my vacuum and a couple of cleaning supplies for a final cleanup before I leave for the last time after work on Friday, June 6th or, if the closing ends up being June 9th, I’ll head up to New Hampshire the following day, Saturday morning.
I officially start working from our new home in New Hampshire on June 9th—I can’t wait! I just can’t believe it! So close!
