Stranger On Our Property!

Someone trespassed on our property last evening! We have a “No Trespassing” sign and rope across the driveway when nobody is there but he trespassed anyway!

I was down the road at my son’s house and the security camera alerted me on my iPhone that a human was present. I checked and, sure enough, there was a video of a man with a rifle walking through our property.

So I went over to check it out. My Hubby and son were out hunting and my daughter-in-law and the kids were gone for a few hours visiting her parents a few towns away. So I had to go alone. But I texted Hubby and my son to let them know and included the video from the security camera. I also had my dogs with me.

I stayed for a while and stayed in close contact with my Hubby and son by text. I opted not to walk down the mountain even though I had my dogs with me. One reason is that I did not have any hunter orange clothing available so I could be misidentified as a deer, especially with my blonde hair and ponytail, and mistakenly shot. Or, my dogs could have been mistakenly shot. I also had no way to confirm that the guy was there for hunting purposes, especially since he did not have hunting attire on.

In the end, the guy never came back out through our property, and I never saw him anywhere. I just stayed inside the house for the most part, on the first floor, looking out the living room window.

It is hunting season but the “No Trespassing” sign means “No Trespassing!” He must have gone out another way. He never appeared on the security camera again either. I suspect he saw it just as he existed the view of the camera. He looked over toward the camera at the very end so I believe he might have noticed it and decided not to go back that way. There were no cars parked on the road anywhere so it wasn’t like he was driving by, saw a deer and went after it. Not sure where he came from! It could be that he was with someone else who dropped him off when they spotted a deer there.

While I was at the property, as I started to walk up to my car to leave, someone driving by stopped in the road by my driveway and got out of his car. I was relieved to find out it was the guy we purchased our property from! I was also relieved that I was no longer alone at the property! He also lives just up the road from us so we are neighbors now. He subdivided some of his property to sell. We purchased lot 7 and he still has lots 5 and 6 on the market. He lives next to lot 5. Right now he is our next door neighbor but when he sells the other two lots, that will change.

He said when he saw me he wanted to stop to introduce himself. When we were in the process of purchasing our property from him, I had found him on Facebook so I immediately recognized him from the photos on his Facebook profile. His wife and grown daughter were with him too. I had also seen their Facebook profiles when researching previously, so I recognized them as well. Very nice family! They wanted to see the side of the house with all of the windows facing the mountain view because they are thinking about building a log cabin home with windows for their view as well. They said that their current home is pretty standard and has small windows so they don’t have any views from inside the house. So I showed them around. They loved it! So I emailed him the link to the palace we purchased our log cabin kit from as well as the phone number for our contractor, as requested.

I still have no idea who the man in the video is. I may never know unless we come across him once we move in and get to know people around town.

  1. Be careful! I personally think he saw your construction site and had been hoping to find equipment left behind that could potentially be stolen! The gun was likely part of his disguise and he is clearly no hunter! Any hunter would be dressed -head to toe in hunting apparel! This is very alarming! Make sure you notify the builders, etc. NOT TO LEAVE ANYTHING OF VALUE behind, even if it's only for a couple of hours! This guy is casing out your build site! It's happened here! Please be super vigiliant! Ask Ian drop in from time-to-time! Even a window or door could potentially get stolen overnight! Cameras won't stop that from happening! ((HUGS))

  2. You’re absolutely right! If you look closely, he looked up and I think he saw the security camera and that’s when he started to run a little! TY! ❤️💕
