Downed Trees and Fire!

Yesterday morning my son texted us and said, “Uh oh. This may be in front of your lot.”

My son was out hunting and wasn’t nearby so my daughter-in-law took a ride up the street to check it out. Sure enough, two huge hemlock trees fell on our property (uprooted) and took down our wires coming from our telephone pole to the main telephone pole across the street and also took and the main wires across the street. The hemlock also caught on fire from the electricity! Fortunately, the fire did not impact our house! The power company just hooked us up to power on Monday, just five days prior to this! Already, the lines needed to be replaced!

The fire department was waiting for the power company to come and turn off the power. At least the fire was out at that point. There were high winds all night and morning that caused this. Evidently there were quite a few trees in the region that were down in the roads and causing sporadic power outages. My daughter-in-law took this photo. We were concerned that since the trees were uprooted that it might have caused damage to our underground wiring from our pole to the house.

Here is another photo from the town Facebook page! Our telephone pole is on the right. If you zoom in you can see our broken power line!

We arrived in the afternoon to New Hampshire and stopped by the property. The electrical wires were back up and power was restored and the trees were cut up and placed on our property. Fortunately, no damage to our underground wiring to the house! Phew! The trees were between the driveway and the underground wires. We have a lot of cleaning up to do! And, sadly, the loss of these two hemlocks has left a gaping opening there. They used to hide the telephone pole quite well, and provided privacy from the road. Bummer!
