Well Updates
On December 18th, we received the following text from our contractor:
“At lunchtime, they were at 280 feet and still drilling. They finished the day at 505 feet and 3/4 gallon per minute. Not great news, but promising that they have water at that depth. They will let it sit, and check first thing tomorrow. At that time they’ll advise on fracking, or drilling further. On a brighter note, they used less casing than quoted so that should help offset some additional costs.”
Since then, they drilled another 100 feet for a total of 605 feet and were still at 3/4 gallon per minute. They then hydro-fracked and got it up to 1.5 gallons per minute, which still is not adequate. A new well should be around 5 gallons per minute. So, they will now continue drilling until we can get closer to 5 gallons per minute. They might hit adequate water within 100 feet further down or it could be more. It’s an additional $22 per foot at this point. They could leave it at 1.5 gallons per minute which might be adequate for just Hubby and me living there but if we have guests, it wound be a challenge to have enough water. As it is, we would still be very limited. We would have to conserve water consistently, such as quick showers, limited toilet flushing, laundry limitations, etc. I wound have to be careful watering my veggie and flower gardens. We don’t want to live with limitations like this. And if we ever decide to sell, these limitations would limit us too. It would be more difficult to sell. It would impact the value as well. Hopefully we’re very close to hitting adequate water! We’re at 1.5 gallons per minute at this point. I would think we’re close! Fingers crossed! Not sure which day they’ll be back to drill but likely within the next week.
